Global Habitat Comments: This species is found in dry brushy habitats including woodlands, oak savannas, barrens, ridges, old fields, and prairies with the larval host plants, including wild cherry, wild plum, and chokecherry (Prunus species) (Opler 1999).
Food Habits: Herbivore:Immature
Nectarivore: Adult
Global Food Habits Comments: Larval hosts: wild cherry, wild plum, and chokecherry (Prunus species) in the rose family (Rosaceae). Adults: nectar from flowers including butterfly weed, New Jersey-tea, dogbane, and sulphur-flower (Lotts and Naberhaus 2017).

Global Range Comment: This species is found across southern Canada from central British Columbia to eastern Quebec and throughout the United States from central Washington and northeast California in the west to southern Maine in the east and south to the Florida panhandle, with an absence from the Southwest and Pacific Coast regions (GBIF 2023).
