| Environmental Summary: | This ecological community occupies high bench floodplain sites that experience infrequent (> 100 yrs) flooding events. | |
| Vegetation Summary: | The tree layer is dominated by large and well-spaced Tsuga heterophylla (western hemlock) and Picea sitchensis (Sitka spruce) with a minor component of Thuja plicata (western redcedar). The shrub and herb layers are moderately developed and diverse and include rich indicators such as Gymnocarpium dryopteris (oak fern), Dryopteris expansa (spiny wood fern), and Tiarella spp.(foamflowers). The moss layer is typified by dense mats of Hylocomium splendens (step moss) and Rhytidiadelphus loreus (lanky moss). | |
