Global Habitat Comments: Sand dunes, sandy and gravelly shores, waste places (Mosyakin 2/2001, FNA draft). Voss (1985) reported that this species occurs on dunes and sandy beaches of the Great Lakes (in Michigan), and rarely inland on sand banks or in railroad yards and gravel pits.

Global Range Comment: According to Mosyakin (1995, 2/2001), three areas of distribution [two probably native]: (1) mostly southeastern Siberia (Russia), with adjacent Mongolia and China; (2) central North America, where it "may" [or is likely to] be native in part, but introduced from Europe as well; and (3) Europe, where "evidently" all introduced.
