Global Habitat Comments: Ellychnia species are known as day-flying or diurnal fireflies. Because they are active during the day, it is likely that adults use pheromones rather than bioluminescent light to communicate with and locate each other. Very little has been documented about the habitats and ecology of this particular species. The habitat associations of this species have not been recorded, although species in this genus are often encountered resting on vegetation and tree trunks during the day.
Food Habits:
Global Food Habits Comments: The dietary preferences of E. hatchi's larvae are unknown, but similar to other firefly species, they are likely carnivorous, feeding on soft bodied invertebrates such as snails, slugs, and earthworms (Lewis 2016).
